#360 News: Woman, 3 Others in Court for Allegedly Selling her Baby for N500,000 in Enugu

Federal High Court
A woman, Ifeoma Eke, and three others on Wednesday appeared before an Enugu East Magistrates’ Court for selling her baby for N500,000.

The four accused persons were arrested on February 19 for operating a baby factory at Ogwuago, Abakpa-Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area.

The prosecutor, Peace Okpara, told the court that the accused persons operated a business where young women were made pregnant, nursed and the baby would be sold out after birth.

Okpara said that certain amount would be given to the baby’s mother based on the agreement between the mother and the accused persons.

She said that the first accused person gave birth to her baby after which she conspired with the other accused persons and sold it for N500,000.

Okpara said the offences contravened the Trafficking in Persons Prohibition Law Enforcement and Administration Act, 2003 as amended.

The Magistrate, Chuks Mbah, who had granted the accused bail in March, declined jurisdiction when the matter was mentioned for hearing.

He ordered that the case file be transferred to the Director for Public Prosecution for advice and adjourned the matter to October 28.
